| Comments: | I don't remember if I had a nickname but also was on Sgt. Bergen' APC when I first got into country in July of 1967. I first entered Long Binh, than Tay Ninh and remember "The Black Virgin Mountain" and War Zone C. Who can forget the heat and humidity, rain and mud, the leaches, snakes and bugs, rice patties and banana plantations. I can still remember the smell of bug spray while in my cot surrounded by a mystique net, and the best raiding the Ice Factory before leaving the Tay Ninh Base Camp. If you remember the big tree that fell across the road while running convey between Tay Ninh and the FSB. Charlie did not do it.....it was me shooting at it every time we passed it. It took many rounds, many passes but with my 50 but it came down. There was scout (the dog), Lt. LaRouch (nice guy), Plt. Sgt. | Comments: | On Nov 16,1966 two tanks from B Co was sent to help 2/2 infantry who was under attack. On the way we were ambushed and lost one tank. Lt Wright, Sgt. Gomez, PFC Harvey, and my best friend , PFC Sammy Jones was killed that night. I was gunner on the other tank with Sgt. Cooper. By the grace of God we made it through that night. On this Veterans Day I remember my fallen comrades. |

I do remember the Black Virgin Mountain, TET of '68, we were at Ton Son Nhut AFB which got blown to Hell, after we got on a ship and were sent up north. I am not liking to remember this shit. | Comments: | I was 2nd platoon leader with B/1/61st. My platoon was attached to C/ 2-34 in early August 1970 for ops north of QL9 just east of Khe Sanh. On 2 Aug 70 one of your tanks was hit with an RPG in a ravine area (one KIA & tank was left there) Later on in the day, I took 2 of my guys and a driver from C/ 2-34 and we ran back down there and got (drove) that tank out of there before the NVA knew what happened (actually they did end up shooting something at us.. either mortars or RPG's ... but luckily they missed) Wonder if any of you all were there and remember that ... some of C/2-34's TC's hopped out of their tanks and personally shook my hand... a good day for a 20 y/o LT when NCO's tell you that you done good. | Comments: | Served in B company Lai Kai 2/68 to 2/69 Started in B company of the 2/2 Mech Infantry and around June was transferred to B Co. 2/34 during Operation Giant Swath the road building jungle clearing operation connecting Hwy 13 to Cui Chi (sp) by way of the Michelin rubber plantation. I think I was on B33. I drove/loaded most of the time. We were credited with a kill after coming to the assistance of a pinned down infantry patrol near the Michelin. I do remember opening the road one morning and after the sweeping was done loading up the infantry turning around and hitting a big mine that totaled my tank. That would probably help a reader place me and the crew. |

| Comments: | Thursday, 3/21/2002 it will be 35 years since the Battle of Soui Tre. This event lead to the unit's 2nd Presidential Unit Citation.. We finished about 11:00 am that day and almost 1/2 of the 272nd regiment lay on the field. Thanks to 1st Sgt Chris Worick and Col George Fourty of the UK for the best and most accurate accounts of this event. I understand that the VN dammed the Saigon river and the whole area is now underwater. |

| Comments: | My son was assigned to the 2/34 Armor during the Gulf War, His Name was Sp4 Philip A. Nickerson Jr. In March of 1998, passed away and we miss him dearly. We know in our hearts that his death was due to the Gulf War syndrome. He was afflicted with the illness since his return from the Gulf and could not continue his Military career due to his health problems and he was discharged with a 10% disability from VA. He had to walk with a cane up until his death. He went to work on the 18th of March 199 |
