Comments:Ive been e-mailing Tom Grooman , and we discussed the possibility of locating an M48A3 and possibly restoring it if there is enough interest within the association. I ,for one , have great regard for the old battle buggies. There was not one in front of the 25th I.D. Museum when I went ther last September . That bothered me. We wouldn't necessarily be restoring one for that purpose , but as Tom mentioned ,for display at future reunions. Is anyone interested in pursuing a project of this type ? If so , let me know. I have no idea what the cost might be but that can be determined if it is deemed that we want to pursue this. I e-mailed the Patton Museum at Fort Knox to see if they could locate one if need be.When I hear from them I'll send out the info. Regards, Rick Welch

I enjoyed his company and his dedication to the 34th Armor Regiment. He, Denny and Pat were responsible for finding many of you Dreadnaughts in the last 40 years. He had many funny stories that he passed on, but had the solemn duty to pick up the bodies of Ssgt Hill, Joseph Vierra and Jerry Byers. The day after the C co CP was hit. Comments:I want to follow up on Gary Lapp's story about Soui Tre. I joined the Bn. on 3Mar67 and was assigned to the Scout Platoon. The platoon was at Katum when I went to the field. Larry Lewis was my first track commander and when he was moved to another track, Bill Hodgson was my commander. When our platoon pulled into the perimeter at FSB Gold, we stayed in the southwest corner. A mess sgt. from the 2/77 Arty came over to our track and said the they were glad we came to their rescue because they were fighting with the kitchen knives in the mess tent and if we had not arrived they would have been overrun. About mid afternoon when it was really hot, out platoon was tasked with helping to police up the battlefield. The back ramp on the ACAV was lowered until it was level with the ground and Richard Squyers and I would pick up the bodies and pieces of bodies as the track moved slowly around the battlefield and throw them on the ramp; not a very pleasant job. The dozer tanks dug two pits and the

Comments:On this day March 21st, 1967 the 2nd Battalion 34th Armor earned it’s second Presidential Unit Citation for its efforts at the Battle of Suoi Tre. It remains one of the proudest days of my life watching those from the 77th Arty waving and cheering as we broke into the clearing of the firebase. This conflict lasted from March 19th to March 21st, 1967. and with the arrival of the Mech forces ended the 3 day battle 4 hours later . When it was nice and safe the brass hats and intelligence REMF’s arrived to confiscate the war souvenirs. Don’t believe all that you hear from the History Channel and Military Channel. The NVA 9th Division commander says that Operation Junction City had no effect on his division , only the un-enlightened media can believe that a commander can loose most of a regiment and say that. Gen Vessey’s spin ignores those who saved his butt for his climb to the Chief of Staff for the Army. We cannot forget the 31 Americans that were killed in this battle.

Comments:Gary: Well, Gary, today is that infamous date for me. Today is the date that Charlie 33 (C-33) was blown up from under me and as you know my Tank Commander Sgt. Hill and our Loader Vierra were erased from the face of the Earth. The Gunner Carson all I know is that he was burned SO bad that he was immediately evacuated to a burn hospital in Japan. Whether he lived or not, I never heard from him again. So I am one lucky son-of-a-gun! When the tank exploded and I was ejected (blown) out, got up, half-way came to my senses, I could see the NVA trying to hit me with their fire . The tank burning and the light from it was like a spot light shining on me. To this very day, I can still see the NVA tracers coming at me. Hundreds of them! It is just a miracle that NONE of the rounds hit me. I never found out what kind of machine guns they were using but all I know is that all I could see coming towards me was a wall of red projectiles Any way, Gary, you understand

Comments:To Pat, I just read the rest of the guest book messages and was saddend to hear of your brother Tony's death. I remember Tony at the first reunion standing by the food table cooking that delicious meat, and making that wonderful salsa. I had never eaten fresh salsa before. I couldn't get enough of it. While making another taco, I noticed we were out of salsa. Tony was making more but I didn't want to wait for it. I went ahead and put a TINY dab of the bottled hot sauce on it instead. Tony warned me to go with a light hand! I did, but I still had steam coming out of my ears and fire out of my nose! He just laughed, and said "I told you!" Wonderful guy Tony. Always had a smile. Again Pat, my condolences to you, your family and Tony's family. Billie

Comments:Hello to all. Sorry I couldn't make the last reunion. I'll plan on being at the one in Wheaton. It's only about three hours away from here. We awarded the first Toby Brant Scholarship this year. Thanks for all your support. BTW Dave Bigard, where did you find a hardback copy of Toby's book? They have been out of circulation for years. The new one(2004) is in paperback. It came out two weeks after Toby died in 2004. Also Toby was in Vietnam in 1969, not 1967. I would love to hear from Abe Cabracang. Still no word on Bill Butters. If anyone hears anything about Butters, please contact me. Love to all, Billie

Comments:My trip to the National Archives in College Park MD was disappointing. All of Major Jones S-3 reports were missing from Jan 1, 1967 to April 14th, 1967. The last records I could find was the quick draw contest on the battalion street on New Years Eve 1966 and the next was Charlie Company getting ready to load on to LST 626 to go to Task Force Oregon at Duc Pho. Missing in the 3 and ½ month gap were the Cp getting hit on March 1st. A list of wounded and killed in the attack, the battle of Soui Tre, and Task Force 34 where we lost C-32, and mines blew up C-34 and the VTR. Thanks to Rose, Junior and Brad Bean for putting up with me and my early hour habits for a week at Bridgeville Delaware and to Brad for negotiating the New Hampshire Ave traffic after rush hours.

Comments:I want to thank everyone at the reunion that helped make it such a good time. This was my first reunion & it was fun running into "ghosts" I haven't seen or remembered from 40 years ago...stories were told, questions were answered, and others still mysteries...It was wonderful to see the remarkable people we only knew for minutes of our lives...Thanks & will see everyone @ the next reunion
