Comments: We lost SP5 Dan Falso 29SEP12 in Florida. Word from his daughter Sierra is that he lost his battle with cancer. Dan was a tanker in A Co 67-68 and earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He lived his adult life in California and retired from the US Postal Service working the Malibu Hills. Blessed be his memory, RIP.

I enjoyed the responsibility for keeping the Tanks and APC in good working order for the mission that we had to do and that was to defend the liberty for all man kind and I will do it again if need be! I had to be the acting motor pool officer as well because the one we had DEROS and left us without one to take his place. I was an EM making decisions in an Officers place. I did very well because the 1st.Tillman gave me an Bronze Star for my patriotism.

Comments: Today - 42 years ago on May 1, 1970 elements of the 2/34th Armor and the 2/47th Mech. were the first official U.S. Army troops to attack the enemy across the Cambodian border from Prek Lok. The mission was to attack Memot and other areas across the border. History will remember us for what we did and the 1st Cavalry Division will take credit for our work. I also sadly remember that this "incursion" into Cambodia cost us many friends - Sgt. David William Barnett who was KIA'd in an ambush and it would also take our only Vietnam War POW / MIAs - Sp4 Rodney Lynn Griffin, Ssg. Bunyan Durant Price, Jr., Cpt. Robert Milton Young, and Maj. Dale Wayne Richardson. All of these 2/34th Armor men were to die or be captured after their chopper was hit and shot down on the way back to Tay Ninh. Also on May 5th, 1970 our attacking forces lost Pfc. John Raymond Feeser, Pfc. Roger Emil Holler, Pfc. James Mason Keller, Sp4 Jack David Leopard, 1lt. Boyd Wayne Smith, and Pfc. Robert Ward Worthington of the 2/47th were lost along with engineers Ssg. Everett Lewis Brocks and Sgt. Larry Michael Beaudette of C Company, 31st Engineers. These men died from an exploding personnel carrier which was RPG'd.

Comments: Just finished "Humping Heavy" by Phil Hoffman. It talks about his experiences in the 1st Cav as an RTO "horn". While I was in a tank company and he was in a grunt outfit, there were many common experiences and feelings. I would recremend this book to anyone wishing to get an insight as we endured. He told me he started on it for his kids, and I hope my kid reads it.

Comments: My dear husband of 41 years, Joseph D. (J.D.) Savage, passed away on December 20, 2011. He was laid to rest at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. His death was a result of Metastatic Adenocarcinoma of the Lung. VA declared him 100 per cent disabled when lung cancer was found in 2010. Cancer spread to the brain in 2011.
